The power struggle between Edo State APC Chairman, Jarret Tenebe, and Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, continues to escalate, with Tenebe seemingly gaining the upper hand
Their recent public spat has brought underlying tensions to the forefront, sparking speculation about Tenebe’s leadership and potential removal
The Edo State APC chapter recently backed Chairman Jarret Tenebe with a vote of confidence, while also upholding the suspension of Adamu Ototobor, a close ally of Minister Abubakar Momoh, from Ward 9 of Etsako East LGA.
The suspension of the ward chairman by Tenebe’s leadership was seen as a challenge by Momoh, prompting him rushing from Abuja to convene a political meeting at his country home in Imiegba.
The meeting, attended by the LGA and ward executives of the local government and some party leaders presided by the Minister , passed a vote of confidence on exco including the suspended ward chairman.
The recent upholding of the suspension by the Edo APC is viewed by political analysts as a subtle message from Jarret Tenebe’s leadership to Minister Momoh that the party won’t be swayed by his influence and also to demonstrate that no one is above the party’s rules.
In a related development , the recent appointment of Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Imafidor, a cousin of Minister Momoh, as a Special Adviser to Governor Okpebholo on Livestock, Aqua culture and Agro-processing has sparked controversy, with some criticizing it as a form of nepotism.
This development has raised questions about the governor’s commitment to equitable representation and merit-based appointments.
