Founder of the Surfspot Communications Ltd, Engr. Akohamen Emmanuel Agenmonmen has called for heightened awareness and deliberate action on cybersecurity and privacy, particularly through the lens of family life.

Addressing professionals at the monthly technical session of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Edo State Chapter, Engr. Ako Agenmonmen where he delivered a thought-provoking paper titled “Cybersecurity and Privacy in the Digital Age.”
emphasized that the online world is not merely a tool of convenience but the prevailing reality for this generation and those to come.

He added that cyber security and privacy in the digital world is important because of the future generations, stating that their reality is the Internet.

Drawing comparisons between the offline and online worlds, he warned against the tendency of some to trivialize digital engagements,Adding that the online world is just as real as the offline world, with far-reaching consequences, positive and negative, he noted.

And due to its speed and reach, its impact is often amplified.

The online world is our collective current reality—and for our children, it’s all they’ve ever known. To protect their future, we must build digital capacity today, starting from the home,” he emphasized.

Engr. Ako encouraged families to foster open communication, remain actively involved in their children’s digital lives, and embrace privacy tools and parental controls to safeguard their homes.

He also addressed fellow engineers, urging them to champion cybersafe behaviors and serve as protectors of the nation’s digital infrastructure.

The presentation sparked an engaging Q&A session, during which participating engineers explored the practical applications of cybersecurity in both family contexts and engineering practices.
