Congratulatory messages have been pouring in from various quarters for Hon. Philip Shaibu following his recent appointment as the Director General of the Nigeria Institute of Sports.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently announced several appointments to various federal boards and parastatals.

The appointment of Hon. Shaibu as the DG of the Nigeria Institute of Sports did not come as a surprise to many, given his accomplishments and achievements in the sporting arena.

While serving as the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Hon. Shaibu was responsible for overseeing the Bendel Insurance Football Club, the state-owned beloved football team.

Among the many prominent Edo citizens who have reached out to Hon. Shaibu regarding his recent appointment is Sen. Yisa Braimoh.

In his message titled “A Square Peg in a Square Hole,” Sen. Braimoh noted that Hon. Shuaib’s appointment was a call to “national duty”

He urged him to approach this new role with the same zeal and passion he demonstrated in his previous positions to revive the country’s struggling sporting culture.

Referring to Hon. Shaibu as “my dear son,” Sen. Braimoh described Hon Shaibu’s appointment as a “good omen”, expressing confidence in his ability to excel in his new role, while also recalling his significant achievements in sports both locally and nationally during his tenure as Deputy Governor of Edo State.

He stated, “I am extremely delighted by your appointment as the DG of the NIS. It is well-deserved. While serving as the Deputy Governor of Edo State, your record of achievements in the field of sports was unprecedented throughout the country.

“With the imminent launch, possibly this year, of the newly approved Federal University of Sports, Afuze (FUSA), along with your appointment as the DG of the NIS, you have been granted a unique opportunity to leave a lasting legacy in the field of sports for both Edo State and Nigeria as a whole.”

Sen. Braimoh stated emphatically that Hon. Shuaib would make Edo State proud, noting his talent for breaking new ground is second to none.

He also hoped to see him succeed once more, this time not as a Deputy Governor, but as the DG of the NIS.

Sen Braimoh represented the Edo North district in the Senate between 2003 and 2007.

He holds the titles of Osiozokhai of the Auchi kingdom and Seriki Musulumi of the Afemai land.
