‎POLICE CONFIRM VANDALISM AT ADC SECRETARIAT IN BENIN

‎The Edo State Police Command has confirmed a violent attack on the African Democratic Party (ADC) State Secretariat in Benin City, with suspected hoodlums causing significant damage to the premises .


‎In a statement signed ASP Eno Ikoedem,Public Relations officer,Edo State Police Command said the  incident occurred on February 4, 2026, at approximately 8:55pm, prompting a swift response from police operatives who were mobilized to the scene to restore order.


‎Preliminary investigations reveal that party flags were vandalized and two windows were shattered. Security has been beefed up in the area to prevent further attacks, while efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.


‎The command has thanked the public for reporting the incident promptly and urged citizens to continue utilizing its dedicated emergency lines. It also warned those responsible to expect severe consequences .




‎The State chairman of the ADC, Kennedy Odion, confirmed the incident, saying the suspected thugs intention was to set the building ablaze.


‎”They destroyed all the windows and other thing in the building before ADC sympathizers in the area came to the rescue.”


‎He alleged that their intention was to set the secretariat ablaze because they came with 10 liter of fuel to the building.


‎According to him, some politicians want ADC to leave the State for them, so that no other political party would contest the 2027 election  with them in the state.


‎”Election is a game that requires everybody’s participation, and there is freedom of association and it is still in force and you can’t force anyone to join a political party of your choice”  he said.


‎He said the has reported the matter to the security agencies, urging them to fish out the perpetrators and brought them to book.
