The PDP National Leader Owan Clan and the former senator representing Edo North senatorial district, Sen Yisa Braimoh, has written a personal letter commending the Edo State PDP chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, for refusing to sign the Peace Accord.
Governor Godwin Obaseki had earlier suggested that the Edo State PDP might refuse to sign the Peace Accord due to perceived bias by the police in the arrest and detention of prominent PDP members across the state.
The governor mentioned this when he met with Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar (retd) and his team at his office in Benin.
The PDP later acted out its threat today when the Edo State chairman of the party, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi refused to sign the Peace accord if though he attended the signing ceremony.
Sen Braimoh expressed full support for the party’s action, stating that the bias displayed by the police is worrisome and that it would have been unjust for the Edo PDP to sign such an accord, given the lack of a level playing field.
Sen Braimoh’s letter read as follows:
My dear Edo State PDP Chairman and Compatriot , Dr. Tony Aziegbemi , in whom we are all pleased .
It is with a very strong sense of FULFILMENT that I watched the National Peace Accord signing ceremony ( on TV ) this afternoon , and your electronic media interview immediately thereafter , specifically on reasons why Edo State PDP did not , and will NOT sign that Accord , UNTIL certain salient conditions are met !
I am extremely proud of you today, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi , as a Compatriot in PDP .
On behalf of myself and the entire PDP members and leaders in Owan Clan , kindly accept our profound appreciation of your visible and non-negotiable commitment to a level playing ground for all concerned , as we prepare for the 21st September Governorship Elections
Finally , and again, on behalf of all our PDP members and leaders in Owan Clan , please accept the assurances of OUR RESOUNDING VOTE OF CONFIDENCE IN YOUR LEADERSHIP .
Signed ::
Senator ( Engr) Yisa Braimoh .
PDP National leader , OWAN CLAN .
