AIG Ohiozoba O. Ehiede from Owan East LGA in Edo State has been appointed the first Director of the Nigeria Police Force’s Directorate of Legal Services.
This new directorate aims to strengthen the force’s legal framework and operations
AIG Ehiede who was also elevated to the AIG rank is expected to lead the Directorate in effectively executing its mandate.
In a statement released on the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, explained that the newly established Directorate of Legal Services will serve as the highest legal authority within the Nigeria Police Force. It will be responsible for coordinating and delivering vital legal services.
Key functions of the Directorate will include legal training, policy review, and structured collaboration with prosecutorial agencies, the judiciary, and other justice sector stakeholders. This reform is intended to promote a more integrated and internationally recognized legal framework for the Police.
The establishment of the Directorate underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to aligning its operations with global law enforcement standards. The initiative aims to enhance prosecutorial efficiency and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, and accountability within the Force’s legal processes.
IGP Egbetokun has urged all officers, particularly those in the legal profession within the Force, to support the Directorate’s mission to improve justice delivery, increase prosecutorial success, and strengthen public trust in police activities.
