‎The face-off between the Edo State government and the 18 elected council chairmen is escalating rapidly across the local government areas in the state.

‎The latest victims of this crisis are the council chairman of Owan East and his deputy.

‎In a dramatic turn of events, both men were impeached for gross misconduct and abuse of office.

‎ Reports indicate the impeachment was carried out by the council’s legislative body, which has now paved the way for the legislative leader to take over the reins of affairs

‎Sources informed *Borderline News 24* that the impeachment may have been instigated by the state government, which is bent on preventing the suspended council chairmen from resuming their positions as ordered by the court.

‎Hon. Haruna Mohammed presided over the plenary session during which Council Chairman Hon. (Prince) Aminu Akodo- Kadiri and Deputy Hon. Clement Ojebuovbo were removed from office.

‎The motion for their impeachment was moved by Hon. Friday Henry Oisawemi, representing Ward Seven

‎The impeached chairman and deputy were also charged with violating the council’s regulations, which their accusers claim undermined the goodwill of both the council and the community, rendering them unfit for leadership.

‎Hon. Marcus Sunday from Ward 1 seconded the motion, leading to support from about eight councillors for the impeachment.

‎With this action, the Owan East Legislative Council has become the first local government area in the Edo North district to impeach its council chairman and deputy.
