Oshiomhole’s Cousin,Omoike Seeks Etsako West Council Chairmanship

Aspirants for local government positions are engaging in consultations and lobbying stakeholders in preparation for upcoming party primaries.
The upcoming local government elections, slated for early next year, mark Governor Monday Okpebholo’s initiative to assert his administration’s influence at the grassroots level.
The current local government chairmen and councillors were inherited from the previous Godwin Obaseki administration.
In Etsako West LGA,’Uzairue clan, considered to be a political hub due to producing notable figures like Adams Oshiomhole, Philip Shaibu, and APC Chairman Jarret Tenebe, has a high number of aspirants vying for the Chairmanship position.
Romeo Omoike, a cousin to former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, is among the aspirants seeking the Chairmanship position.
Omoike, a former member of Adams Oshiomhole’s inner circle during his governorship, hasn’t formally declared his candidacy, but his associates are actively campaigning and consulting stakeholders on his behalf.
Omoike’s associates claim that while his political rise is linked to Adams Oshiomhole, he has built his own reputation, which is now opening doors for him.
The significance of his influence within the All Progressives Congress (APC) can be gauged by the turnout at his 50th birthday colloquium in Abuja. The event, which took place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel which was attended by a wide array of prominent figures, including High-ranking officials from the presidency and political leaders from Edo state.
The list includes former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dr. Pius Odubu, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Senator Ehigie Uzamere, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, Chief Oseni Elama, Hon. Festus Ebea, Hon. Mika Amanokha, Chief Taiwo Akerele, among others.
The strong backing from influential figures within the party can significantly boost his chances of securing the party ticket.
As a prominent member of the Our Lady of Fatima Old Boys Association, Romeo Omoike’s bid for the APC Chairmanship ticket could be seen as a reward for his past support to others.
