Okpella — A village head in Okpella, Chief Segun Balogun, has denied attending a meeting allegedly held by the Ukhomunyio council of village heads to disclaim a petition to the EFCC against the Okuokpellagbe, HRH Michael Sado.
The clarification follows both newspapers and social media claims that Ukhomunyio leaders met to disown the petition against the clan head.
In a rejoinder copied to police and EFCC officials, Balogun’s lawyer, Prof A.O.O Ekpu said neither Balogun nor Chief Michael Bello attended such a meeting, noting that Bello died on 11 May 2024 and was buried in October 2024.
”Chief Segun Balogun maintain that he was never aware of any such meeting. As for Chief Michael Bello, let it be known that Micheal Bello died on 11″ May, 2024 and was buried in October 2024. it is not known that ghosts attend meetings.’
The statement described reports of Bello’s presence as “impersonation” and called for investigation.
”We therefore state on behalf of our clients that if any persons presented themselves as Chief Michael Bello at the alleged meeting, it was obviously a case of impersonation .’
The clients called on security agencies to investigate and prosecute anyone found culpable of impersonation.”
