Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has taken a significant step towards promoting inclusivity and empowering persons with disabilities by appointing Ms. Kindness Ikponwonsa Idahosa, a visually-challenged lawyer, as a Law Officer in the Ministry of Justice, showcasing his administration’s commitment to equal opportunities and genuine empowerment.
The appointment is a clear message by Governor Okpebholo, emphasizing that disability is not a barrier to potential, and highlighting the administration’s belief that “there is always ability in every disability,” as stated by Chief Press Secretary, Ebojele Akhere Patrick.
He added that the state is intentional about creating pathways for talented and hardworking citizens, regardless of their physical limitations.
“Ms. Idahosa’s journey reflects resilience and an uncommon triumph over adversity. Diagnosed with Hereditary Sensory Neuropathy, a debilitating spinal condition, she was forced to drop out of school in JSS 3 and remained at home for thirteen years. Her life took a new turn when the Network for the Advancement of People with Visible Disabilities intervened, providing a wheelchair and sponsoring her return to school.”
“With that support, she secured admission to study Law at the University of Benin where she graduated with a Second Class Upper Division in 2023. She proceeded to the Nigerian Law School in 2024, completed her Bar Finals successfully, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in September 2025.”
“Governor Okpebholo’s approval of her employment stands as a strong example of his administration’s commitment to fairness, inclusion and practical support for Edo citizens striving against the odds.”
