Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has nominated Professor Roland Otaru, a renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), as a Commissioner Designate.
Professor Otaru, hailing from Akoko Edo, was announced alongside four others in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Iluhor.
Professor Otaru’s nomination marks the second person from Akoko Edo to be appointed, following Bisi Idaomi, who serves as the State Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Development. This brings the total representation from Akoko Edo in the State Executive Council to two
Professor Roland Otaru has several notable achievements:
- First lawyer from Ikpeshi village in Akoko Edo LGA
- First person from Edo-North to attain the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN)
- First in his 1986 Law set at the University of Benin to achieve the SAN title
Prof. Otaru has had a distinguished career in law, and his appointment is seen as a recognition of his expertise.
Professor Otaru’s nomination has sparked speculation about a potential cabinet reshuffle, with some believing he might be considered for the roles of Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, given his esteemed background as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
