Some former local government chairmen elected under the PDP in Edo North during the Obaseki administration have defected to the ruling APC.
The move was formalised at Warrake, Owan East, at the home of APC senatorial leader Abdul Ganiyu Lawani (“Abu Millionaire”).
The defectors included Marvellous Zibiri (Etsako West), Princess Benedicta Attoh (Etsako East), Alade Tajudeen (Akoko Edo), Okondor Kadiri (Owan East) and Gowon Yakubu (Etsako West).
Speaker of the Edo Assembly Blessing Agbebaku, Chief of Staff to the governor, Yakubu Oshiorenua and Rep. peter Akpatason were among APC leaders present at the ceremony.
In his remarks , an elated Speaker Agbebaku said Governor Monday Okpebholo’s target of 2.5 million votes will be achieved and further said the stage two of the defection will be a forum to receive the defectors along with their supporters.
Former Etsako East LGA chairman, Attoh speaking on behalf of defectors, said they are out to add value to the party while also promised to support the much expected a 3.5 million-vote goal for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The leader of the party, Abdul Ganiyu Lawanii expressed appreciation to the defectors and similarly thanked the governor Okpebholo for the giant strides achieved in the state.
The former chairmen were suspended from office after the exit of Governor Obaseki from power by the Edo Assembly on the governor Okpebholo’s recommendation which left them stranded politically.
