The newly elected State President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Edo State, Comrade Clifford Daudu has called on all Local Government Chairmen in the state to immediately pay salary arrears and the unremitted statutory deductions to local government employees without further delay.

Comrade Clifford Daudu who stated this at a media interface with a cross-section of journalists in Benin city said “Local government Council workers in Edo State are been owed salaries spanning from 2017 to 2023, a situation which has caused undue hardship for the workers.

Edo NULGE President also berated the Councils’ Management for the unremitted statutory deductions from workers’ salary which runs to several millions of naira.

Comrade Clifford Daudu noted that after series of letters from the Union demanding for the arrears, the leadership of ALGON and NULGE met in May 2024 where it was agreed that they will start to defray both the salary and deductions arrears from the month of June 2024.

Edo State NULGE President however lamented that “as at October 2024, the Councils are yet to honour their words despite several reminders from the Union.

“Despite increased allocation to the local government from the federation account and the improved rate of IGR it is unacceptable that these arrears are left unpaid.

Comrade Clifford Daudu however warned that “the Union will not hesitare to mobilise its members for a total shut down of the Councils by the end of October if our demands for the payments are not met.
