The former Edo state Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial aspirant, Rt. Hon. Barr. Sergius Oseasochie Ogun has led the defection of LP members across the State to the people’s Democratic party PDP and also endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Barr. Asue Ighodalo, for the upcoming Edo 2024 governorship election.

Hon formally made the defection and endorsement at the flag off of the PDP campaign rally which took place in Ubiaja.

Ogun, who represented Esan North East and Esan South East Federal Constituency from 2015 to 2023, is recognized for his people-oriented initiatives during his tenure in the National Assembly.

Despite previously contesting for the LP gubernatorial ticket, Ogun decided to support Ighodalo, citing his qualifications and preparedness for the office.

“After careful consideration, I have come to the realization that Barr. Asue Ighodalo is the finest and most prepared candidate for the Edo 2024 gubernatorial election,” Ogun stated, emphasizing Ighodalo’s vision and leadership skills.

Ogun’s endorsement is a significant boost for the PDP, aligning a substantial portion of LP supporters behind Ighodalo and his running mate, Barr. Osarodion Ogie. This move highlights Ighodalo’s appeal across party lines, further strengthening his campaign.

In response, Ighodalo expressed gratitude for the endorsement, promising to work diligently to deliver good governance to the people of Edo State. As the election approaches, the impact of Ogun’s support on the overall race remains to be seen.
