‎Kidnappers have invaded Makeke community in, Akoko Edo, Edo State, targeting the community Health Centre and abducting two individuals, including a nurse and a teenager, on February 8, 2026.

‎The kidnappers, who emerged from the forest, took Mrs. Gladys Okomayin, a nurse, Miss Tope Oriloye, a secondary school student, and Mr. Samuel Ilesanmi, who was at the centre with his sick son. However, they later released Nurse Okomayin due to her poor health.

‎As soon as the news of the kidnap hit the community, Makeke hunters and vigilantes mobilised and entered the wilderness, combing far and near till the early hours of the new day, all their efforts to no avail.

‎The kidnappers have demanded a ₦100 million ransom for the release of the remaining two captives. This is not an isolated incident, as the group has been demanding similar amounts in previous kidnap ransom negotiations.

‎The Movement for the Advancement of Akoko Edo People (MAAP) has called on the Edo State and Akoko Edo Local Government to take immediate action to address the worsening security situation

‎”Akoko Edo is surrounded… Is it not clear that Benue and Kwara States are fast descending to Edo State, their open gateway being the vast wilderness of Akoko Edo?” the group asked in a statement signed by Omowumi Bode Ekundayo, National Coordinator, MAAP.
