The Owan people of the Edo North district are set to boldly establish a special day dedicated to celebrating “Owan Day.”
Known fondly as the Owan’s, this vibrant community is ready to join the ranks of other communities in the Edo North district that honour their history, culture, and progress with a dedicated annual event.
Barrister Richard Ofen-Imu, President of the Owan Conscience Group, made this announcement via a press statement issued by the socio-cultural organization.
The Owan Day, he said, is the brainchild of his group.
He further stressed that there is a need for a unified Owan front.
According to him, the maiden edition of the Owan Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 31, 2025, in Afuze, the administrative headquarters of the Owan East local government area.
The Owan enclave encompasses two local government areas: Owan East and Owan West, solidifying a strong regional identity.
Bar Ofen-Imu added that preparations to make the Day a memorable one are at an advanced stage
He also provided a peep into what to expect as he said the event will feature a potpourri of activities designed to showcase the rich history and culture of the Owan nation
Top on the list of the interesting activities lined up for the celebration of Owan Day includes a lecture on Owan’s history, growth, and development.
Additional activities include cultural displays that will brilliantly showcase the Owan culture and heritage, along with a cultural exhibition.
Barrister Ofen-Imu is confident that the event will not only highlight the richness of Owan culture but also foster unity and collaboration among the two local government areas and their people.
Expectedly, the Owan Day event is coming at a time when Owan’s role and leadership have taken centre stage in Edo politics
