Edo State Governor , Senator Monday Okpebholo has gotten the approval of the state House of Assembly to kicks off his administration with a budget of N485.63 billion and also to appointment of 20 Special Advisers.
The budget approved by the State House of Assembly allocates N202.65 billion for recurrent expenditure and N282.99 billion for capital projects.
The budget which focus on infrastructure and economic development has also been signed into law by the governor.
Governor Okpebholo during the signing ceremony on November 18, held at the Executive Council Chamber of Government House in Benin City, expressed his gratitude to the Assembly for the swift passage of the bill.
He emphasized that this significant step lays the foundation for transformative governance in Edo State.
“I sincerely appreciate the cooperation of the Edo lawmakers and their quick action in passing this bill. With this kind of synergy, Edo State is on the path to unprecedented growth. We now have a united team committed to the progress of our state,” the governor said.
The letter requesting for the approval to appoint 20 Special Advisers by Governor Okpebholo was written by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor to the hallowed chamber stating that the appointment was for the smooth running of his administration.
The motion to approve the request was moved during plenary by the Majority Leader, Charity Aiguobarueghian.
It was seconded by the Minority Leader, Eric Okaka.
Aiguobarueghian said that Section 196 (2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, empowered the governor to appoint Special Advisers.
In a unanimous decision, the lawmakers approved the appointment of the 20 Special Advisers .
The lawmakers also received another letter from the governor for the confirmation of Emmanuel Okoebor as Commissioner for Finance.
