The management of God is Good Motors, a prominent transport company, is facing backlash after announcing a Lagos to Benin route fare of ₦75,000.
The hike which critics described as unreasonable also spark outrage among passengers and commuters.
A Social media influencer, Albert Obazee who brought the issue to limelight in a viral video slammed the transport company for “exploitative” practices,.
Some Nigerians especially customers boarding the vehicles from Lagos to Benin city had demanded a total reversal of the recent fare increase by the management of the transport firm.
According to them there is no justification for the continuous increase in prices, especially with good road conditions between Lagos and Benin.
”These fare hikes are making life more difficult for Nigerians, and we urge the company to act responsibly and consider the welfare of poor Nigerians”, they said..
The fare hike has sparked a heated debate, with some arguing that it is a business decision and that transport companies should set prices to maximize profits while others claim that there is no justification for the increase, especially since fuel prices haven’t risen
Transport operators attributed the hike to rising operational costs, including fuel, vehicle maintenance, and security expenses.
The operators opined that they are under pressure to stay afloat, given increased costs and traffic congestion.
