Hon. Àfie Braimoh, the former Edo State Commissioner of Business, Trade and Cooperative has bagged yet another award in recognition of her fearless advocacy for the rights of the girl child as well as the inclusion of women in various spheres of national life
She was named the Most Notable Female Advocate by a conglomeration of non-governmental organizations involved in the promoting of women’s empowerment
It was gathered that the former Commissioner truly merited the award for being a consistent voice in the struggle for gender equality and women empowerment in a largely patriarchal society.
The conferment ceremony took place on May 25 at the conference hall of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution, Abuja .
The award was received on her behalf by her mother who recently clocked 83.
The theme of the event is: “Investing in Women: Count Her In”
A source within the NGO told Borderline News 24 that Hon. Braimoh was selected because of her global credentials as an advocate for women’s empowerment as well as a better deal for the girl child
In particular, Hon. Braimoh is regarded as one of the few women known to have distinguished herself in public office.
As a commissioner, she endeared herself to the public as a bold and strategic performer.
She was one of the best-performing commissioner in the Obaseki cabinet. Her capacity to invent and recreate is legendary and was also able to roll out a series of impactful incentives and policies to make the MSMEs vibrant in the local economy in leading the push for women’s inclusion, empowerment and a better deal for the girl child
