Federal High Court Benin relocates to New venue over threat of flood

The Federal High Court Benin judicial division has relocated from her usual venue at Benin -Auchi road to a new designated venue within the premises of the state High Court along the Sapele road opposite the Benin Correctional Centre .

The relocation became necessary due to the perennial flood problem which prevented both court workers and litigants from gaining entrance to the court.

It was said that a new court building was made possible by the state government.

The reopening of the Benin judicial division which was closed down when it became obvious that the flood infected building can no longer be of use in anyway to serve her functions, was announced by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho

The directive for the reopening of the judicial was made by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho.

“The directive for the reopening of the Benin City Judicial Division was contained in a in a statement on Wednesday by the FHC Assistant Director of Information, Catherine Oby-Christopher.

It notified members of the public that the division has been relocated to the venue formerly used by the Court of Appeal.

The location is within the High Court complex opposite Benin Correctional Centre on Sapele Road in the Edo State capital.

The statement read in part, “The Honourable, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice John T. Tsoho, OFR wishes to notify members of the public that the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Benin-City Judicial Division has been relocated to the venue formerly used by the Court of Appeal, within the High Court complex, Benin-City, opposite Benin Correctional Centre, Sapele Road, Benin City, Edo State.

“With this development, the two Courts that comprise the Benin-City Judicial Division of the Federal High Court resumed full sitting on the 8th day of May 2023 at the new venue”, the statement said.
