‎Two socio-cultural groups, Esan People’s Progressive Union (EPPU) and Ibhioje Progressive Union (IPU), have commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for his efforts to restore Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma to its former glory.

‎”We must put on record that it is hard to believe that in just six months of your assumption of office, the storyline of AAU has changed for the better,” said Mr. Odion Okoduwa, Chairman of EPPU, and Prince Arebamen Osemudiamen Jerry, Chairman of IPU, at a media chat.

‎The groups praised the governor’s achievements, including:
‎- Payment of N70,000 minimum wage
‎- Timely payment of workers’ salaries
‎- Constitution and inauguration of a functional governing council
‎- Promotions of deserving staff
‎- Confirmation of over 80 professors
‎- Restoration of sanity to the institution

‎The groups urged the governor to consider appointing a substantive Vice Chancellor without further delay. “We are also using this medium to call on the State Governor and Visitor to the University to consider appointing a substantive Vice Chancellor for the institution without further delay,”.

‎They cautioned against tribal sentiments in the choice of Vice Chancellor, urging stakeholders to prioritize the university’s well-being over personal gains. “We are aware of the enormous pressure on him by our people for him to navigate a seemingly parochial path of tribal sentiments in his choice of Vice-Chancellor,” they noted.

‎The groups advised the governor to seek legal counsel and interpretation of relevant laws guiding the process. “We are therefore calling on our leader and Governor to further widen his consultations to the extent of seeking legal counsel and interpretation of relevant laws guiding the process,” they said.
