Appeals for Media Support

The Chief Medical Director of Edo Specialist Hospital, Dr Anthonia Inibokun Njoku said the facilities at the hospital are currently overstretched due to the rising public demand for their range of services.
The medical Director made the submission when the newly Inaugurated management board of the Hospital paid a courtesy visit to the Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.
Dr Njoku during the visit shared insights on the initiatives her team is undertaking to revamp and reposition the hospital, ensuring it continues to deliver exceptional services to patients.
She also took the opportunity to call for increased support from the media, highlighting the crucial role they play in this endeavour.
Dr Njoku noted that while the hospital has been receiving strong support from the state government, there is a need for more assistance, as the facilities are currently overstretched due to the rising public demand for their range of services.
During the visit, the hospital CMD revealed that the rising number of patients seeking specialist medicare has imposed a huge burden on its facilities and called for an expansion to meet the increasing demand.
She also highlighted the hospital’s enhanced capacity to address a variety of critical medical issues due to its state-of-the-art facilities.
She, however, pointed out that the major obstacle preventing the delivery of quality healthcare services is the limited number of bed spaces, which she noted often leads to congestion .
According to Dr Njoku, “We have space constraints. Change is the only constant in life. The hospital is achieving great things and is ready to do even more, but our location in the city centre means that everyone wants access to our services, thereby placing considerable stress on our existing facilities. Unless we expand, we may never be able to cope.”
Dr Njoku further explained that, as a specialist hospital offering a wide range of specialized medical services, many people come to them for medical solutions, resulting in an overwhelming demand that has created a precarious situation: more admissions but insufficient bed space.
Despite these challenges, she assured that the hospital management is committed to addressing them
She expressed optimism about the future, mentioning that the hospital aims to become the primary option for serious medical cases, including cardiothoracic and neurosurgeries.
Dr. Njoku also noted that the necessary trained personnel for these life-saving surgeries are available within the hospital.
In his earlier remarks The Edo nuj chairman, Comrade festus Alenkhe encouraged the management team to be proactive and assured them that the Edo NUJ would provide positive coverage of their activities.
