Less than a month into his tenure as the governor of Edo State, Sen. Monday Okpebholo is already confronted with challenges that come with this prestigious job

The backlash comes from Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, which has frowned at the appointment of Dr Emmanuel Iyamu as chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board,SUBEB ,and the flag off of a fly over bridge in Benin without adherence to due process in terms of transparency and clarity on the cost of the project and set timeline.

,
The party, still grappling with the aftermath of the September 21 Edo governorship election, asserts that Dr Iyamu’s appointment violates specific legal statutes that govern the Agency aside being a blatant abuse of power.

Hon Nekhihare also called on the governor to refrain from establishing detrimental precedents that could impact the integrity of governance in the state.

The appointment of Dr Emmanuel Iyamu the party observed took immediate effect before the governor had even submitted his name for screening and confirmation by the state assembly, a requirement mandated by law.

He emphatically urged the governor to respect the people of Edo State and adhere to the established governance protocols in execution of responsibilities.

On the flag off of the fly over bridge Nehikhare said ” the emergency overhead bridge which was flagged off a couple of days ago at the Ramat Park axis of Benin City, which we are aware bypassed all standard procurement procedures. We demand that he makes public the procurement procedure for this project, stating the cost of the project and timeline, how the contractors were selected and whether the process complied with the State’s Public Procurement Act, among other details relating to the project.”

“As a party, we draw his attention to the fact monies spent without appropriation of the House of Assembly is an impeachable offence and the PDP will not hesitate to drag him to the ICPC for violating the public procurement Act.”
