Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo’s “Edo is Shining” initiative is facing a major test as the state grapples with darkness following the collapse of the national grid, reportedly for the second time in January.
The power outage has crippled the economic lifeline of residents, particularly those reliant on electricity for their livelihood.
Critics say the governor’s focus on road inspections, though commendable, should be matched with efforts to address the energy crisis .
With electricity now off the exclusive federal list, stakeholders urge the state government to seize the opportunity to invest in the sector and bring light to the darkness.
They urged him to build on his predecessor’s efforts in the energy sector, or take inspiration from Abia State, which hasn’t experienced a grid collapse.
A respondent noted that the electricity situation is worsening daily, crippling the state’s economy. Fuel purchases are now a luxury, as prices are sky-high.
