The Edo State Government recently restored the clan status of the South East Uneme, which had been revoked during a crisis with its neighbours.

Additionally, the government presented the staff of office to the clan’s monarch, HRH Benjamin Ikani, as the Oliola of the clan.

South East Uneme is the birthplace of Prince Clem Agba, a former minister of state for budget and national planning.

Former governor and current senator representing the Edo North district in the Senate, Sen Adams Oshiomole, created the South East Uneme out in the twilight of his tenure.

However, Oshiomole’s successor, Gov Obaseki, revoked the clan’s status and dethroned its paramount ruler for not complying with the state government’s directives regarding the promotion of peace in the area.

After appeals and efforts to restore peace, the state government rescinded its revocation order.

The formal presentation of the staff of the office to the Oliola of the South East Uneme took place in Uzanu, the headquarters of the clan.

The entire paraphernalia of the state government was present at the ceremony, led by the Edo State Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Monday Osaigbovo

Hon. Osaigbovo presented the staff of the office to the Oliola of the South East Uneme clan, with assistance from an official of the Etsako East LGA,

Many Uzanu people who gathered to witness the event expressed joy at the development and praised the state government for rectifying past injustices suffered by the clan.

They also expressed gratitude towards their distinguished son, Prince Clem Agba, and others who played a role in the creation of the South East Uneme clan.
