Edo Govt Marks Former Edo Speaker, Onobun’s House for Demolition Over Alleged Cult related matter

The Edo State government has marked the private residence of former Speaker Hon. Marcus Onobun for demolition.
Hon. Onobun confirmed this development, stating that agents from the state government were in Iruekpen, his hometown, to physically mark the building for demolition.
Critics of the state government’s crackdown on cultism have taken issue with its perceived bias, arguing that the campaign is aimed at silencing opposition figures.
With the marking of Hon. Onobun’s private residence, the state government appears determined to ignore any calls for restraint as it seeks to “deal” with those it views as supporters of cultism.
Despite Hon. Onobun’s strong denials of any connections to cult groups, the state government remains unyielding.
Authorities have claimed that the former Speaker’s residence was being used as a base for cultists planning violent attacks on the state.
Notably, Hon. Onobun is the last remaining member of the Edo PDP in the National Assembly.
In defence of the allegations against him, Hon. Onobun has distanced himself from the claims, describing them as “false, malicious, and fabricated,” intended to damage his hard-earned reputation and hinder the commendable work he has done as a progressive representative for his constituents.
Hon. Onobun previously served briefly as the Speaker of the state assembly before being elected to represent the Esan West/Esan Central and Igueben federal constituency in the lower house of the National Assembly.
