Edo state government has urged the public to ignore the rumor making the rounds that the federal high Court in Abuja has dismissed with cost the stay of execution filed against the reinstated impeached Edo state deputy governor, Philip Shaibu.

A statement signed by Chris Osa Nehikhare, Hon. Commissioner for Communication and Orientation said the story making the rounds that Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court Abuja has dismissed the application of stay of execution against the reinstatement of the impeached Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, is completely false.

“We want to emphatically state that the motion of notice is still in force. The Record of Appeal was transmitted to the Court of Appeal, hence, the motion for stay pending at the Federal High Court was withdrawn from the Federal High Court, which no longer has the jurisdiction to entertain same, and a fresh Motion for stay of execution was filed before the Court of Appeal which court is now seized of jurisdiction.”

The Inspector General of Police, the defendants, and other parties to the suit have been duly served.

As it stands, the status quo remains until the determination of the appeal.

The false story being propagated by mischief makers to cause crisis in the State should be disregarded in its entirety.

We enjoin citizens to go about their lawful businesses as the government remains committed to maintaining law and order and will continue to work for the growth and progress of our dear State.
