The Edo State Government has launched the Children First Software (CFS), a digital case management platform aimed at enhancing the welfare of children in orphanages.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, seeks to improve monitoring, care, and support for vulnerable children across the state
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Eugenia Abdallah, disclosed this during a strategic meeting with the National Deputy President of the Association of Orphanages and Homes Operators in Nigeria (ASOHON).
She said CFS is a web-based platform developed to enhance the management of children in orphanages. She noted that one of its key features is the provision of real-time access to child welfare data from any location, enabling government officials to effectively monitor orphanage activities and promptly assess individual cases.
Reaffirming the Edo State Government’s unwavering commitment to the protection of the rights, and overall development of vulnerable children, the Commissioner stated that the adoption of the CFS is a strategic move aimed at strengthening supervision, enhancing transparency, and improving accountability in the management of children in orphanages.
According to her, leveraging the digital platform will facilitate more effective monitoring, informed decision-making, and alignment of child protection practices with national and international best standards.
To ensure effective implementation of the software, Mrs. Abdallah disclosed that the Ministry would organise a comprehensive training programme for orphanage and care home operators across the State. The training, she said, is intended to equip operators with the necessary technical skills and knowledge to seamlessly adopt the platform, ensure accurate data management, and comply with established child protection standards.
Earlier, the National Deputy President of ASOHON, Mrs. Caroline Silver-Oyaide, provided an overview of the CFS, noting that the engagement forms part of a broader nationwide initiative by the Association to promote the adoption of the digital platform and support states in strengthening child protection and welfare systems through improved data management and technology-driven solutions.
