Edo GBV Committee Visits Igbinedion Education Center Over Bullying Incident‎

‎The Edo State Gender-Based Violence Management Committee visited Igbinedion’  Education Centre following a viral bullying incident.
‎. Represented by Permanent Secretary Joy Ihensekhien,  Coordinator of the Office of the Edo State First Lady,  Edesili Okpebholo Anani,said the committee was investigating the case, identifying perpetrators and victim, and reviewing preventive measures.

‎She reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy on violence, bullying, and child abuse, and pledged intensified advocacy in schools to promote safer learning environments.


‎Mrs Anani also highlighted the importance of continuous sensitization, stating that the committee would intensify advocacy visits to schools to educate students on their rights and promote safer learning environments

‎Deputy Board Chairman, Igbinedion Education Centre, Lady Cherry Igbinedion called the incident unfortunate and at odds with the school’s values. She said it stemmed from a student dispute that escalated when one pupil allegedly disrespected a parent, prompting retaliation against the offender’s sibling.

‎The school expelled those involved, sent the victim for evaluation, and reported the case to police and DSS.

‎She noted the institution’s strict anti-bullying handbook given to students and parents.
