Edo State’s deputy governor, Hon Marvellous Godwins Omobayo, received a prestigious award at the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) ceremony in Abuja.
Hon. Omobayo, who is an engineer by training, was honoured with the Fellowship of the NSE, the highest professional achievement within the society.
During the event in Abuja, Hon. Omobayo expressed his gratitude for the award and mentioned that it would inspire him to achieve greater professional heights.

He described the fellowship as the “pinnacle of recognition,” comparable to the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) bestowed upon accomplished legal professionals by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
Also, he emphasized that the award symbolized fulfilment in character, learning, and practice, representing the culmination of years of hard work and invaluable contributions to society, adding the award represents a call for greater responsibility.
Hon. Omobayo also noted that he was one of the youngest awardees and expressed gratitude for being honoured alongside his former professor who had taught him engineering mathematics at the university.
He concluded by expressing his thankfulness to God and the NSE for the rare opportunity to reach the peak of his political and engineering career, attributing his success to discipline and hard work.
The President of the NSE, Engr Margaret Aina Oguntola, emphasized the crucial role of the awardees in helping the government improve the construction standards in the country.
She urged them to demonstrate expertise in their work, adding that as Fellows, they are now leaders of the esteemed Society, and they must maintain the highest standards of professionalism and ethics, while also setting an example for the next generation of engineers.
Recall that Hon Omobayo celebrated his 38th birthday on July 19. The NSE fellowship appears to be a fitting birthday gift for the deputy governor, who hails from Akoko Edo.
He assumed the role of Edo State’s deputy governor on April 8, following the impeachment of the former deputy governor, Hon Philip Shuaib.
Observers have described Hon Omobayo’s rapid rise in politics as “deserving,” given his humble disposition and approach to issues. He has also been credited with carrying out his duties admirably and has resisted becoming power-hungry, unlike his predecessors.
