The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), a premier professional accounting body in Nigeria, recently hosted its annual dinner, culminating in the election of the next cohort of executives to lead the organization for the coming years.
Hajia Queen Safirat Seghosime, who hails from Auchi in the Etsako West council area, was elected the second Vice President of the body
Her election was seen as a well-deserved recognition of her exceptional abilities and qualifications.
While her election was undoubtedly one of the standout moments of the ICAN conference, it was not entirely unexpected given Hajia Seghosime’s extensive expertise and dedication.
Present to celebrate this remarkable achievement were her family members, the Seghosime family, who expressed immense pride in her accomplishments and extended their best wishes for her upcoming tenure.
In their statement, the family emphasized that her election is a testament to her unwavering dedication, integrity, and the relentless hard work she has contributed to her professional journey.
They stated, “This is truly outstanding. Your election as the second Vice President of ICAN serves as both an inspiration and a source of pride for our family.”
The family offered heartfelt prayers, wishing that Allah continues to bestow wisdom upon her and fortify her in her new role.
Hajia Seghosime, Mni, FCA, is a seasoned accountant with a wealth of experience in diverse fields such as tax administration, finance, general management, tax governance, strategic leadership, dispute resolution, and audit, among others.
With over two decades of impactful service in the accounting profession, Hajia Seghosime is regarded as one of ICAN’s most prominent female figures in recent years.
Her extensive background includes various leadership roles that have equipped her with the critical experience needed in the profession.
She has held senior positions at the Federal Internal Revenue Service (FIRS), including that of Coordinating Director for Enforcement and Compliance.
Currently, she serves as the CEO and Head of Advisory Services at Quebaab Professional Services, a respected firm of chartered accountants.
First elected to the ICAN Council in 2014, Hajia Seghosime has impressively served in multiple capacities, culminating in her recent elevation to the highest decision-making body of the Institute.
Hajia Seghosime is a distinguished professional with membership in several esteemed organizations.
She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitration, and an honoured participant of the National Institute of Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State.
Additionally, she served as a Commissioner/Member of the Tax Appeal Tribunal and holds a position on the Board of the Nigerian Accounting Standards Board (NASB), now known as the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC).
Throughout her rewarding professional journey, Hajia Seghosime has received various awards and commendations that highlight her significant contributions to the field.
Notably, she played a key role in reform initiatives at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), representing the organization on several international committees, including the Management Committee of the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators (CATA) and participating in discussions with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, as well as the global forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax and the Technical Committee of the FIRS Board.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Hajia Seghosime is also an avid golfer, showcasing her passion for the sport in her personal life.
