T,he Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has suspended the National Vice Chairman (South-South), Chief Dan Orbih, for his alleged involvement in sabotaging the party’s efforts in the upcoming Edo State governorship election.
The suspension comes amidst ongoing disputes within the PDP Edo State chapter following the party’s governorship primary election on February 22, 2024, which saw Asue Ighodalo emerge as the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, explained that Orbih’s “actions and comments” regarding the Edo primary election were “not in line with the party’s constitution.”
Ologunagba revealed that the NWC has set up a six-member committee, led by the Deputy National Chairman (South) Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, to investigate the matter.
Last week, Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled in favor of a case (FHC/ABJ/CS/165/2024) that contested the exclusion of 378 delegates from the primary election.
In response, the PDP has appealed the judgment, as revealed in Ologunagba’s statement on Wednesday.
Despite the internal conflicts, the PDP NWC urged all its leaders, stakeholders, and members in Edo State to remain united and focused on securing victory for the party’s candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, in the September 21, 2024, governorship election.
