The member representing Egor/ Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency of Edo in the National Assembly, Honourable Murphy Osaro Omoruyi, has congratulated all his constituents and Nigerians in general on the occasion of this year’s Democracy Day urging everyone to maintain faith in democratic tenets and values.
The Labour Party ( LP) lawmaker made the appeal in Abuja in his 2025 Democracy Day message to his Egor/ Ikpoba-Okha constituents and Nigerians at large.
Hon. Omoruyi opined that June 12 must not just be regarded as one of the days in the calendar but as a powerful symbol of justice, freedom, and good governance.
He said that by so doing, Nigerians will keep alive the struggles and sacrifices of those who paid the supreme price in order to restore the democracy we all enjoy today.
The parliamentarian also used the occasion to pay a special tribute to late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola for his resilience and tenacity of purpose in the face of the unlawful annulment of the June 12, 1993 election which he won. The lawmaker maintained that Chief Abiola’s victory remains a beacon of the people’s will, even though tragically denied.
He said the injustice meted out to Chief Abiola notwithstanding, his courage and unwavering belief in democratic ideals continue to inspire generations of Nigerians in the pursuit of freedom and fairness.
Hon. Omoruyi, therefore, enjoined his constituents and all Nigerians to renew their resolve by upholding the values that sustain democracy, transparency, accountability, rule of law, and active civic participation stressing that everyone has a role to play in building a Nigeria where every voice matters and every citizen thrives
Hon. Omoruyi appealed to all to be hopeful and united in purpose in order to build a future defined not by challenges but one with shared determination to rise to greatness.
