Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, has sparked outrage among colleagues by using House funds to purchase a Hummer bus for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sources reveal the donation, made at a ceremony attended by Deputy Speaker Osawonyi Atu, was a bid to secure the party ticket for 2027.
Agbebaku, beaming with pride, explained that the Hummer bus donation aimed to “oil the wheel of progress” for the APC,
Colleague lawmakers and staff slammed the move, citing the Assembly’s financial struggles and unpaid staff allowances.
Critics allege the bus, worth millions, bypassed procurement processes, with the Speaker unilaterally approving the purchase
. The gesture has raised questions about the Speaker’s motives, with some seeing it as a desperate play for party favor.
An APC secretariat staff, speaking anonymously, expressed surprise at the donation, questioning its necessity given the party’s substantial funding from the state government and allocation of official cars to its executives .
