A Non Governmental Organization (NGO) Child Protection Network Nigeria in commemoration
of this year’s Children’s Day celebration slated for May 27 will be launching the National Child Protection’s Anthem.
Similarly, it will make use of music and media as tools to create awareness, advocate and educate on the need to protect the right of every Nigerian’s child.
The National Coordinator of the NGO and proprietor of School in the Streets Mr. Olakunle Sanni, disclosed this to Journalists while speaking on the proposed launching of the National Child Protection Anthem, slated for May 27 with a promotion plan running until October 1, 2025.
Other contributors in the forthcoming programme are, Barrister Anthonia Oshiniwe, Director Theios Caregivers Initiative and the Project lead, Co-Project Lead Adeleke Gbenga, Executive Director of Child’s Survival and Family Development Initiative, and Ambassador Precious Obeahon Founder Conscious Soul Record, a Corporate Social Responsibility consultant and SDG advocate, serving as the Project Consultant.
Mr. Sanni said the national project is aimed at promoting and advocating the wellbeing of every child which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Speaking about the programme further, he said it is CSR-driven initiative that brings together over 65 key stakeholders, including songwriters, music producers, communication specialists, NGOs, influencers, bloggers, schools, teachers, and child advocates.
Sanni maintained that the project will engage stakeholders from all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria: North Central, North East, North West, South East, South South, South West.
He said the engagement strategy includes local partnerships, schools, NGOs, religious institutions, and the media.
While reeling out other activities that would be incorporated into the event which includes virtual training, he said “Virtual training on child safeguarding, monitoring, evaluating, learning, and accountability to ensure that stakeholders are equipped with the necessary information to document impact and also learn how to use a systems thinking framework for projects and initiatives that strengthen, safeguard children in Nigeria and creating awareness around adverse and positive childhood experiences.
“Virtual Songwriting Boot camp: A virtual songwriting boot camp will be held to ensure that the voices from children across Nigeria will be amplified and creatives understand adverse and positive childhood experiences and safeguarding through the eyes of children, artists like Fortune, Nanya, Jovanni, Betsy, Eseosa, and Sharon who have experience advancing social issues would lead the creative process”.
The national coordinator added that the anthem and campaign will reflect Nigeria’s diversity by featuring different languages and cultural advocacy to strengthen policies around safeguarding the children.
He reiterated that a Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) framework will guide implementation and measure impact across partner organizations.
He further called for collaboration from NGOs, corporate organizations, schools, musicians, and content creators to partner with the project by sharing awareness of the content weekly for eight weeks leading up to the launch.
He added that the integrating and safeguarding messages in their platforms should be supporting child-focused policies at the local, state, and federal levels, stressing that the initiative directly supports SDGs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 16, and 17—eradicating poverty, zero hunger, ensuring good health, quality education, gender equality, reduced inequality, peace, and strong partnerships and advancing the sustainable development goals 2030 agenda.
