Backlash in Oredo: Edo APC Secretary, Lawrence Okha, Accused of Favoritism in Appointments

By DADA. AYOKHAI

A concerned APC group in Oredo Local Government Area is accusing Lawrence Okha, Edo State APC Secretary, of attempting to impose Gabriel Iduseri (also known as Gabros) from Ward 7 as the chairman of Oredo Local Government Council.

This move is seen as part of a larger pattern of favoritism towards Ward 7, with Okha allegedly allocating key positions to members of this ward while neglecting the other 11 wards.

The concerned group allegations against Okha which was signed by Coordinator, Osamuyi osadiaye highlights the need for transparency and fairness in the allocation of leadership positions .

The appointments they said are skewed in favor of ward 7 of the local government thereby getting all the juicy positions to the ward while neglecting other 11 wards in the LGA .

The listed offices are;
State Secretary of APC*: Okha himself holds this position

  • Local Government Party Chairman: Also from Ward 7
  • Key Appointments:
    • LGA Assistant Treasurer of APC
    • Edo House of Assembly Member for Oredo West Constituency
    • LGA Publicity Secretary of APC
    • LGA member, Edo Produce Board
    • Member representing Edo South in Oil and Gas (Okha’s son)
    • Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants to the Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly
    • Oredo revenue collectors
    • Supervisory Councilor, Oredo

The concerned group noted that Oredo Local Government Area is made up of 12 wards, explaining that these wards are further divided into various polling units but the APC secretary Lawrence Okah has used his office to outrightly left the remaining 11 wards to wallow in absolute neglect .

The group noted inspite of the lopsidedness, okah is also making efforts to foist dropping the names of the Governor and the secretary to the state government of one Gabriel Iduderi (aka Gabros) also from Ward 7 for Oredo local government chairman.

They appealed to the state governor to allow other wards in the council area to also have a representation in the council as well as the state government level.

They expressed optimism that the governor, following his track records of strictness, would listen to them and correct the one sided appointments as they further appealed to him to use his good office to allow any other wards to produce the chairman for equity and fairness.
