Auchi political class has being urged to refrain from pressuring Uzairue in the upcoming Etsako West Local Government Area chairmanship election.
The call came from Ishiak Yusuf Ayonote, an Uzairue leader and retired federal director whose statement is a reaction to a published document from Auchi community which alleged that Uzairue and constituency 2 has had more than enough slots as LGA chairman.
Why dismissing the claims that Uzairue and Constituency 2 have produced more chairmen, he argued that constituencies 1 and 2 were created in 1991, rendering pre-1991 chairmen irrelevant to current calculations. He accused Auchi political class of manipulating data, omitting key figures, and inflating tenure durations.
According to Ayonote, Constituency 1 has held the chairmanship for 17 years since 1999, while Constituency 2 has had approximately 7-8 years, including current office holder Valentine Okwilagwe’s remaining tenure.
Ayonote also alleged that former Governor Adams Oshiomhole supported Auchi and Constituency 1 in past elections and urged him to also back Constituency 2.
He stressed that Oshiomhole’s relation in the race shouldn’t be a basis for pressure, emphasizing that the candidate should be assessed on his agenda, qualifications, and pedigree, rather than sentimental factors.
