President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently responded to public pressure by making changes to the membership of the Governing Councils of Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education.

The initial list of members faced criticism from stakeholders and academic unions, prompting the President to postpone the inauguration of the Councils for a review.

A new list has now been released, and there seems to be a sense of calm compared to the earlier list.

The new list includes less controversial members to replace those who faced public scrutiny regarding their integrity and suitability.

In the case of the Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Etsako West, Hon Osarobo Idahosa, a prominent APC member from Edo South district was replaced by Chief Richard Lamai on the institution’s Governing Council.

Chief Richard Lamai, from Fugar, Etsako Central, is the son of the late Senator Lamai.

Chief Lamai, who is also a member of the APC, narrowly lost the APC ticket for the Etsako federal constituency in the House of Representatives to the incumbent, Hon. Sunday Dekeri.

The Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, is a source of pride for the Edo North district. As one of the oldest polytechnics in the country, the institution has earned several local and international academic accolades.
