He urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to launch a thorough and transparent investigation, ensuring that those behind the attack are swiftly brought to justice.
Murphy also appealed to political stakeholders nationwide to embrace peace and dialogue, warning that unchecked acts of intimidation could erode public confidence ahead of future elections.
His remarks reflect growing fears that political violence, if left unaddressed, could destabilize Nigeria’s fragile democratic processes.

Political analysts argue that the incident highlights the dangerous polarization within Nigeria’s political landscape, where rivalries increasingly spill into violence. The attack, they say, underscores the urgent need for stronger safeguards to protect political leaders and restore public trust in democratic institutions.
As Nigeria prepares for future electoral contests, the Benin City incident serves as a stark reminder of the stakes involved. For many, it is not just about the safety of individuals but about defending the integrity of democracy itself.
