The All Progressives Congress (APC) has renewed its call for the arrest and prosecution of the speaker of Edo state House of Assembly, Hon Blessing Aigbebaku, over involvement in alleged electoral violence.

The allegation was contained in statement signed by the Edo State APC chairman, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, .

The party accused individuals associated with Aigbebaku of being behind the crisis in Owan West local government area of Edo State.

The party according to the statement initially raised alarms on August 20, 2024, alleging that Aigbebaku was plotting to disrupt the upcoming gubernatorial election on September 21.

Despite these warnings, the APC alleged that security agencies have failed to act.

The APC further alleged that on August 31, 2024, Aigbebaku masterminded a violent attack against their members in Owan West LGA.

The incident reportedly involved the wife of the APC Ward 2 chairman and the family of David Iruedo, the party’s Ward 2 Organising Secretary.

The attackers, purportedly are said to be acting on Aigbebaku’s orders, assaulted Mrs. Collins Amoni, smashed a seven-month-old baby against a wall, stripped Iruedo’s wife naked, and vandalized his bar.

The APC therefore demands the immediate arrest of Aigbebaku and all those involved in the attack, cautioning that while they advocate for peaceful elections, their members may be forced to defend themselves if the authorities do not intervene. He concluded.
