The Edo State Police Command has arraigned Osazuwa John, an employee of Airen Pharmacy in Benin City, for the attempted murder of his colleague, Yakubu Favour, whom he allegedly assaulted with extreme brutality, leaving her near death.
Osazuwa had in July 22 at the premises of Airen pharmacy Airport road in Benin brutally assaulted
Yakubu Favour to a point of death and was admitted at the Military Hospital, Airport Road, Benin City where she undergone major operations. .
He was arraigned at the Benin High Court on a one-count charge of attempted murder for allegedly assaulting his colleague, Yakubu Favour, with extreme brutality. The case has been adjourned to September 18.
Osazuwa was granted bail in the sum of 1 million Naira with a surety who must be a resident of Benin, Edo State, specifically with a building.
The plight of Yakubu Favour, who hails from Okpella in Etsako East LGA, was brought to public attention through a petition signed by Enabulele Mariam, a relative of the victim, and submitted to the Edo State Police Commissioner.
Feminists argue that regardless of the circumstances, brutally beating a woman to the point of near-death is unacceptable. They condemn the recent surge in male violence against women, warning that if left unchecked, this trend could have long-lasting, generational consequences.
The emphasis is on promoting a culture of respect, accountability, and zero tolerance for gender-based violence.
