The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has granted Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, Edo State, approval to admit students into its nursing program for the 2024/2025 academic session.
This was disclosed by the Acting vice Chancellor of the university , Prof Sunday Olowo Samuel during a media interface with journalists and Media Executives on the state of affairs of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor further announced that the Nursing Council’s approval allows the university to commence admissions into the Nursing Science Programme, with a specified quota of 120 students for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The Vice Chancellor added that the university is still awaiting final approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and emphasized that the management is committed to adhering strictly to the approved quota to avoid past mistakes. This wait for final approval also applies to resuming admissions into the Medicine and Surgery program.
The Acting Vice Chancellor also highlighted the positive impact of the institution’s visitor’s recent intervention, which included increasing the monthly subvention to N500 million starting from November 2024. This increase has enabled the university to meet some of its obligations.
He also disclosed that in line with governor Monday Okpebholo’s directives the management of the school reinstated all the politically sacked staff by the defunct Special Intervention Team (SIT) which he described as a demonstration of the institution’s commitment to justice and the rule of law.

The Vice Chancellor continued, stating that the university’s Senate recently approved a policy aimed at enhancing efficiency and responsiveness in handling certificates and transcripts. As a result, graduates now receive their certificates immediately after graduation. He also noted that the longstanding issue with transcript applications has been resolved, with implementation ongoing to ensure satisfaction among alumni.
The Vice Chancellor reported that the College of Medicine has made significant progress in addressing inherited challenges. Key achievements include the successful swearing-in and oath-taking ceremony for Set 18 and the 2020/2021 Medical Doctors session, the induction of 810 nurses, and resolving issues related to indexing and examinations for MLS students that arose from excess admissions..
The Vice Chancellor, Samuel, announced that the Edo State government has recently approved three major building projects for the university. These projects include a 1,500-seater lecture theatre, a twin 300-capacity lecture theatre, and a 600-bed hostel. The aim is to address student accommodation needs and ensure a smooth accreditation process.
“Several academic conferences have been successfully hosted within the University, reflecting management’s commitment to scholarly exchange and creating a stimulating academic environment”.
The Vice Chancellor promised to cooperate fully with Governor Monday Okpebholo, supporting his vision to rebuild and reposition the university for progress, growth, and development.
