The Vice chancellor of the state owned Ambrose Alli University , Ekpoma AAU Prof. Eunice Omonzejie is involved in loggerhead with the university’s Governing Council, which she has reportedly dismissed as a distraction.
Unconfirmed campus accounts say Omonzejie, appointed September 22, 2025, has leaned toward sole-administrator control in defiance of university rules and appears set for a bruising confrontation with authorities she views as rivals.
lt is like she came prepared for a battle royal with everyone and everything that may appear equal or superior in authority to her office.
Some of her few actions was striping the Governing Council members statutory entitled allowances since her assumption of office and similarly withdrawing the vehicles allocated for conveying Council members to and fro ekpoma for their statutory meetings.
According to insiders, Prof. Omonzejie repeatedly nudged staff unions to protest council decisions she opposed, including the approved appointments of a bursar and internal auditor.
Though the process of appointing these officers were fully procedural in line with relevant guidelines , she allegedly lobbied unions to appeal to Governor Monday Okpebholo, the university Visitor.
Okpebholo reportedly reminded her that the council is statutorily empowered to handle such matters, but she continued referring issues to him.
At the council’s last meeting, members affirmed their prerogative in a March 21, 2026 letter to union leaders, effectively closing the case—a stance said to have rattled Omonzejie.
Union sources claim her meetings aimed to sideline the council, casting her as a sole administrator who touts the governor’s backing after installing his relative as deputy.
Staff whisper that her six-month tenure runs counter to Okpebholo’s vision for AAU,.
All attempts to get official reactions from the office of the Public Relations officer proved abortive as his official line could not be reached.
