Akoko Edo Gets Third Top Appointment As Owolabi Becomes Chairman Of Health College

BENIN CITY – A former House of Representatives aspirant for Akoko Edo Federal Constituency, Dr. Adetutu Owolabi, has been appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of the Edo State College of Health Sciences and Technology.
The appointment was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq.
Dr. Owolabi, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, had twice sought the party’s ticket to contest the Akoko Edo seat in the National Assembly.
The appointment comes days after the state government backed the emergence of Hon. Yekini Idaiye from Akoko Edo as Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly. It is widely seen as recognition for her decision to step down for the party’s choice candidate during the last APC primaries.
With the new appointment, Akoko Edo now holds three key positions in the current administration: Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Chairman of the State Local Government Service Commission, and Chairman of the College of Health Sciences and Technology.
Dr. Owolabi holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice, DNP, in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, a Master of Public Health, MPH, and a Bachelor of Science, http://B.Sc., in Nursing. She is also an ANCC Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
The Edo State College of Health Sciences and Technology traces its roots to 1964, when it was established as the Health Auxiliary Training School to address the need for healthcare personnel in the then Mid-Western Region of Nigeria.
Initially focused on training Sanitary Overseers and Dispensary Health Workers, the institution was renamed the School of Health Technology in 1976 and expanded its curriculum to include programs leading to National Diploma, ND, and Higher National Diploma, HND, qualifications, elevating it to tertiary status.
