Edo Wins National Award As Best Performing State In SGBV Prevention

Edo State has been honoured with the Award of Excellence as the Best Performing State in Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, SGBV, Prevention and Protection.
The award was presented at the 26th National Council on Women Affairs, Child Advancement and Social Development held in Jalingo, Taraba State.
The National Council recognised Edo State for its sustained efforts in preventing and responding to SGBV, protecting women and girls, and strengthening systems for the promotion of their rights and well-being.
Reacting to the recognition, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Eugenia Abdallah, described the award as a significant milestone for the state.
She said it is a validation of the commitment of the administration of His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to creating a safer and more equitable society for women, girls and vulnerable persons.
Abdallah said the award was not only an honour but also a call for the Ministry and its partners to do more in tackling SGBV and ensuring that survivors receive the necessary protection, support and justice.
She commended the Permanent Secretary, directors and staff of the Ministry, as well as development partners, security agencies, civil society organisations and other stakeholders for their contributions to the State’s progress in SGBV prevention and protection.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening advocacy, prevention, survivor-centred support and inter-agency collaboration to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls in Edo State.
She dedicated the award to all stakeholders working tirelessly to protect the rights and dignity of women and girls across the State, noting that the recognition would further inspire the Ministry to raise the bar in its service to the people.
“This award belongs to Edo State and to every stakeholder who has contributed to our collective efforts to prevent Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and protect survivors. We are encouraged by this recognition, but we also recognise that there is still much work to be done. We will continue to strengthen our systems, deepen collaboration and ensure that every woman and girl in Edo State can live free from violence and fear,” Abdallah said.
