The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Marvelous Isaac, over the alleged abduction of a woman at the Vegetable Market in Benin City.
The woman was kidnapped on Sunday, June 14, 2026, while shopping after church service with her family.
Parading suspects on Thursday, June 18, 2026, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, said the arrest was carried out by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team, IRT, Edo, acting on credible intelligence. One suspect, Precious, surname unknown, was neutralised during an exchange of gunfire with police, while two other suspects escaped.
Items recovered include a red Lexus RX 350, reg. no. EKP 848 AE, which the suspect confessed was used for the operation; one pump-action shotgun; two live cartridges; N2,250,000 suspected to be proceeds of crime; and one motorcycle.
“Investigation is ongoing, with efforts intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang,” CP Agbonika said.
The Commissioner also disclosed the arrest of five suspects — Musa Haruna, Bali Sule, Mohammed Sani, Adamu Jafaru, and Mohammed Hashiru — in connection with attacks on Young Shall Grow Motors, GUO Motors, and Akwa Ibom State Transport Company vehicles along Benin-Lagos Road by Ogwa community.
He said Haruna confessed to being part of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate operating around Ogwa. He led VCRU operatives to Ogwa Forest where two decomposing bodies of victims were recovered. Further investigation led to the arrest of the other four suspects in Ogun State, and they all confessed to involvement in the crime.
