The Edo State Government has extended its crackdown on structures linked to cult-related killings and kidnapping with the demolition of motor parks at Jattu Junction, Auchi, Etsako West LGA.
The action follows a recent killing incident reportedly recorded at the park a few days ago, raising serious concerns over security and public safety at the busy transport hub.
The demolished site housed both a private motor park and the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, park at the popular Jattu Junction.
In an interview, the Edo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kazeem Afegbua, said the state has a law against cultism. He explained that once investigation confirms a location is harbouring cultists, the law applies whether it is a residential building or a motor park.
Residents and commuters woke up to see government equipment at the site carrying out the exercise, which led to the complete removal of structures within the affected parks.
The development has sparked mixed reactions. While some residents and stakeholders support the move as a necessary security measure, others have raised concerns about its impact on transportation and livelihoods.
