‎The leadership of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, led by the Amirul Hajj, HRH Mallam Ali D. Suleyman, the Oghieaga of Ivbie, has commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for sponsoring 50 pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj.
‎The commendation came while submitting the 2025 Hajj report to the governor.

‎Suleyman described the 2025 exercise as one of the state’s most successful outings and praised the governor’s support.
‎He noted, however, that payment constraints meant some beneficiaries could not be accommodated.

‎He also flagged challenges for the 2026 Hajj, citing a strict payment deadline set by Saudi authorities that has affected over 351 intending pilgrims, leaving only 93 able to participate.

‎Receiving the delegation, Governor Okpebholo noted that Hajj is a long-established religious obligation that requires deliberate and timely planning, describing it as “a culture we grew up to meet.”

‎He expressed concern over the late presentation of requests to the government, which he said limited the state’s ability to intervene effectively for the 2026 Hajj.

‎The governor said, “When problems are brought early, they can be solved early. But when something is happening tomorrow and you bring the request today, it becomes difficult to address,”

‎He regretted the delays experienced and urged stakeholders to begin preparations for subsequent pilgrimages well in advance, recommending that planning should commence at least nine months ahead, with particular attention to the health and readiness of intending pilgrims.

‎The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of Muslims in the state, assuring continued support for pilgrimage activities and peaceful coexistence.
‎He said , “I assure you we will continue to support the Muslim community in Edo State. We will continue to live together peacefully,”
