Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has reassigned his kinsman, Felix Akhabue, from the Ministry of Works to Water Resources in what observers call a further sidelining of the commissioner.
Akhabue had been commissioner for works on paper, but the ministry does not functionally exist under the current administration, leaving him largely redundant
Under Okpebholo’s administration the Ministry of Works does not functionally exist in Edo State. While that may be the governor’s prerogative, leaving someone designated as commissioner without duties risks making a mockery of both the person and the office.
. Sources say the reassignment, announced during the festive season, signals the governor’s intention to nudge him toward resignation rather than sack him outright.
Akhabue, popularly known as Joefel, first came to political limelight as chairman of Esan West LGA in Ekpoma and later as chairman of the state’s ALGON chapter. He rose to national prominence, serving as ALGON’s Publicity Secretary and then National President a record unmatched by any other Edo politician.
