In a bid to strengthen local security, the Otaru-in-Council, an apex decision-making body in Auchi kingdom, has approved the recruitment of Fulani residents into the community’s vigilante and hunters squad.
The decision follows a visit by Hausa-Fulani community leaders, who expressed concern over rising kidnapping and criminal activities in Auchi.
In his remarks, the Daudu 1 of Auchi, Alhaji Chief H.M. Momoh, emphasized that security is a collective responsibility, stating “all hands must be on deck” to address challenges.
Alhaji Momoh noted that the Hausa-Fulani community had previously made a similar request to join the local security outfit.
The Otaru-in-Council assured that Auchi is a home for all law-abiding residents, but the Fulani volunteers will undergo comprehensive screening by police and local security leadership before admission
Community stakeholders are optimistic that the inclusion of Fulani residents in the local security outfit will enhance efforts to combat kidnapping and other crimes.
Residents are urged to support lawful security initiatives and cooperate with authorities to secure Auchi .
